My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that learning is a combination of three elements: partnership and trust between the student and teacher, open community amongst peers and individual commitment to success.
My goal for everyday is to create an environment in which students feel safe, open to participating and free to figure out what works and what doesn't. I am here to be a mentor to my students. I am here to be an advocate for those who struggle. I am here to challenge those who excel. I am here to lift up on dark days and celebrate on best days. I will push students to learn fuller, deeper and with more vigor than ever before in a place they know they are accepted and valued.
My classroom is a community. I see everyday we all enter our space as an invitation to sit at the family table. It's a place where we can share about life and about learning without judgement. Everyone participates in an atmosphere of differentiation, and nobody is left out. We help those who need it and we celebrate when we overcome obstacles. We work hard together, and teamwork is expected to be carried out with respect for ourselves and our peers.
I firmly believe that true learning takes place in a mind that is excited and willing to absorb new information. I will challenge each student to seek opportunities to grow not only as students, but also as human beings. Students will seek to discover their passions, their talents, their challenges, their dreams and find focused ways to achieve and overcome them.
My desire is that all who enter my classroom will find peace, unconditional support, laughter, joy, tough love, and a place where learning feels right.
